Yes, it is possible to encash Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGB) at any time, including through premature redemption.
All the SGB units are listed in the secondary market and can be sold anytime during market hours just like any other stocks. Simply place a sell order for your SGB units, which are listed in the secondary market. This gives you the flexibility to encash your investment when you choose to.
Also there is a premature redemption request which can be given after 5 years directly and the same needs to be intimated to the Registrar for the same. SGB FAQ
