What does record date and ex-date mean?

Record Date:

The record date is an important date for a company to identify eligible shareholders for corporate action benefits. If you hold shares in your demat account on the record date, you qualify for various corporate benefits like rights shares, bonus shares, stock splits, dividends, and more.

Ex-Date:

The ex-date marks when a stock begins trading without the advantages of a corporate action – it goes ex-benefit. Both the ex-date and record date for corporate actions have got aligned in most of the cases since all instruments have moved to the T+1 settlement cycle. A stock trades cum-benefit (cum-rights, cum-dividend, etc.) until the ex-date.

How to Check Dividend Ex-Date/Record Date:

Tradejini provides complete fundamental data for all the listed companies on both its Web and Mobile App.  To check the Ex-date on the web app  please click on corporate action after selecting the desired stock and click on any of the actions to see the ex date if available.  On the Mobile app after selecting the desired stock click of the fundamentals tab and then the corporate actions tab under which the various corporate actions are listed out and the ex date is listed if available.   Additionally we also provide an alert in the watchlist for any stock where there is an corporate action or an important upcoming event in form of and "E" symbol besides the stock symbol in mobile and and EVENT symbol in case of Web app.
