Why do sold stocks display as negative positions and affect P&L on CubePlus?

Q. Why is the P&L change of the stocks sold shown on CubePlus?

When you sell stocks on CubePlus, the P&L change is displayed to empower active traders in making informed decisions. This feature allows traders to gauge the profit or loss from the selling price, aiding in strategic decisions regarding repurchasing.

How does it work?

Once you sell any stocks the same will be ear marked for paying and are debited from your demat account on settlement period (T+1) if not repurchased during the trading day, these sold positions are visible in the positions window.

Why display P&L for sold stocks?

Active traders often engage in intraday trades, selling stocks with the intent to buy them back. The displayed live P&L for sold stocks helps traders track their position. For instance, if you sell  share of ICICI Bank at ₹320 and the price drops to ₹316.35, you could potentially make a profit of ₹3.65 (1% of the holding value) upon repurchase. This real-time P&L information assists traders in deciding whether to buy back the stock or not.
