Can I use shares pledged under Equity for Commodity trades, or do I need to unpledge and re-pledge them?

You cannot use shares pledged under the Equity segment for Commodity trading after the new compliance rule comes into effect. With the implementation of segment-wise margin segregation, all pledged securities must be linked to the specific segment in which you intend to trade.

If you have already pledged stocks under the 'Equity' segment, those margins are only usable for trading on all segments of NSE and BSE. To use those same stocks for Commodity trading on MCX, you must unpledge them under 'Equity' and then re-pledge them under the 'COM' segment through the Portfolio > Margin Pledge section in the Tradejini back office.

Here's how the process works:

  • Go to the Unpledge tab, select 'Equity', and choose the stocks to unpledge.

  • After unpledging is complete, go to the Pledge tab, select 'COM', and reselect the same stocks for pledging under the Commodity segment.

  • Complete the CDSL authorization via OTP to finalize the re-pledge.

To receive margin benefit for the next trading day (T+1):

  • Unpledge before 4:00 PM

  • Re-pledge between 5:30 PM – 6:00 PM

If you do not unpledge and re-pledge under the COM segment, your pledged securities will remain usable only for NSE & BSE trades, and the margin won’t reflect under the Commodity section.
