My path to markets did not start with a finance degree. It started with engineering. Years of learning that a structure is only as sound as the assumptions holding it up, and that the assumptions have to be checked, not trusted. I bring the same instinct to equities. A company's stock price is a story someone is telling. Its balance sheet, cash flows and management track record are the facts underneath the story, and those are what I look at first.

I approach investing the way a builder approaches a site: understand what is actually there before deciding what it is worth. That means reading a business the way Peter Lynch taught investors to, in plain terms a customer or employee would recognise, and applying the patience and rigour Philip Fisher wrote about, the discipline to hold a good business through noise and to walk away the moment the facts stop supporting the thesis.

A word by Praveen George

A business is not its share price. Understand what a company actually does, how it makes money, and whether its numbers back up its story, before deciding what it is worth to you. Verify first, form a view second, and be willing to change your mind when the facts do.
